An anthology of texts selected by Marlies ter Borg
This anthology follows the story of mankind as told in Bible and Koran from the first day of Creation to the Day of Judgement, ending in hell or paradise. What is not commonly known is that these stories – featuring major figures such as Adam, Cain and Abel, Abraham, Moses, Noah and Jesus – closely resemble each other. In both the Koran and the Bible, Jesus is born of the Virgin Mary as foretold by the Angel Gabriel. In the Bible, Mary marries Joseph; the Koran version depicts an unwed mother struggling in loneliness to give birth to the Messiah.
This work places relevant quotes side by side. Interpretation and explanation are left to the reader. However after seeing so many similarities between the stories in both holy books, one cannot help but wonder what all the argument is about. Quotes on values such as peace, compassion and tolerance conclude the book. Here again the reader is in for a surprise!
Marlies ter Borg received MAs in philosophy and sociology followed by a PhD in cultural studies. During the Cold War, she worked as a polemologist, conducting research on war and peace. She has no religious affiliation. For this project, she closely cooperated with Karima Bisschop, a converted Dutch Muslimah who is the initiator and webmaster of the website www.muslima.ca.
