And when he was old enough, she took him to the king's daughter, who adopted him. She named him Moses because she said, “I pulled him out of the water.”
After Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were hard at work, and he saw an Egyptian beating one of them.
Moses looked around to see if anyone was watching, then he killed the Egyptian and hid his body in the sand.
When Moses went out the next day, he saw two Hebrews fighting. So he went to the man who had started the fight and asked, “Why are you beating up one of your own people?”
The man answered, “Who put you in charge of us and made you our judge? Are you planning to kill me, just like you killed that Egyptian?” This frightened Moses because he was sure that people must have found out what had happened.
When the king heard what Moses had done, he wanted to kill him. But Moses escaped and went to the land of Midian. One day, when Moses was sitting by a well,
Some shepherds tried to chase them away, but Moses came to their rescue and watered their animals.
Moses agreed to stay on with Jethro, who later let his daughter Zipporah marry Moses.
And when she had a son, Moses said, “I will name him Gershom, since I am a foreigner in this country.”
One day, Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, and Moses decided to lead them across the desert to Sinai, the holy mountain.
There an angel of the Lord appeared to him from a burning bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire, but it was not burning up.
When the Lord saw Moses coming near, he called him by name from the bush, and Moses answered, “Here I am.”
I am the God who was worshiped by your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Moses was afraid to look at God, and so he hid his face.
But Moses said, “Who am I to go to the king and lead your people out of Egypt?”
Moses answered, “I will tell the people of Israel that the God their ancestors worshiped has sent me to them. But what should I say, if they ask me your name?”
God said to Moses: Lord Lord Lord
Moses asked the Lord , “Suppose everyone refuses to listen to my message, and no one believes that you really appeared to me?”
The Lord answered, “What's that in your hand?” “A walking stick,” Moses replied.
“Throw it down!” the Lord commanded. So Moses threw the stick on the ground. It immediately turned into a snake, and Moses jumped back.
“Pick it up by the tail!” the Lord told him. And when Moses did this, the snake turned back into a walking stick.

And remember We appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence, you took the calf (for worship), and you did grievous wrong.
And remember We gave Moses the Scripture and the Criterion (between right and wrong): there was a chance for you to be guided aright.
And remember Moses said to his people: ''O my people! you have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf: so turn (in repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker.'' Then He turned toward you (in forgiveness): for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
And remember you said: ''O Moses! we shall never believe in you until we see Allah manifestly,'' but you were dazed with thunder and lightning even as you looked on.
And remember Moses prayed for water for his people; We said: ''Strike the rock with your staff.'' Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each group knew its own place for water. So eat and drink of the sustenance provided by Allah, and do no evil nor mischief on the (face of the) earth.
And remember you said: ''O Moses! we cannot endure one kind of food (always); so beseech your Lord for us to produce for us of what the earth grows, - its pot-herbs, and cucumbers, its garlic, lentils, and onions.'' He said: ''Will you exchange the better for the worse? You go down to any town, and you shall find what you want!'' They were covered with humiliation and misery; they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing.
And remember Moses said to his people: ''Allah commands that you sacrifice a heifer.'' They said: ''Do you wish to make a laughing-stock of us?'' He said: ''May Allah save me from being an ignorant (fool)!''
We gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of Messengers; We gave Jesus the son of Mary clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. Is it that whenever there comes to you a Messenger with what you yourselves do not desire, you are puffed up with pride? - some you called impostors, and others you slay!
There came to you Moses with clear (Signs); yet you worshipped the Calf (even) after that, and you did behave wrongfully.
Would you question your Messenger as Moses was questioned of old? But whoever changes from Faith to Unbelief, has strayed without doubt from the even way.
You say: ''We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma`il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) Prophets from their Lord: we make no difference between one and another of them: and we bow to Allah (in Islam).''
Have you not turned your vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses? They said to a Prophet (that was) among them: ''Appoint for us a King, that we may fight in the cause of Allah.'' He said: ''Is it not possible, if you were commanded to fight, that you will not fight?'' They said: ''How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?'' But when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah has full knowledge of those who do wrong.
And (further) their Prophet said to them: ''A Sign of his authority is that there shall come to you the Ark of the Covenant, with (an assurance) therein of security from your Lord, and the relics left by the family of Moses and the family of Aaron, carried by angels. In this is a Symbol for you if you indeed have faith.''
It is He Who sent down to you (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the Criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).
Say: ''We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the Prophets, from their Lord: we make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam).''
All food was lawful to the Children of Israel, except what Israel made unlawful for itself, before the Law (of Moses) was revealed. Say: ''You bring the Law and study it, if you be men of truth.''
The People of the Book ask you to cause a book to descend to them from heaven: indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle), for they said: ''Show us Allah in public,'' but they were dazed for their presumption, with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf even after Clear Signs had come to them; even so We forgave them; and gave Moses manifest proofs of authority.
Of some Messengers We have already told you the story; of others we have not; - and to Moses Allah spoke direct; -
Remember Moses said to his people: ''O my People! call in remembrance the favor of Allah to you, when He produced prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given to any other among the peoples.
They said: ''O Moses! in this land are a people of exceeding strength: never shall we enter it until they leave it: if (once) they leave, then we shall enter.''
