Satan decided to cause trouble for Israel by making David think it was a good idea to find out how many people there were in Israel and Judah.
One day, when the angels had gathered around the Lord , and Satan was there with them,
the Lord asked, “Satan, where have you been?” Satan replied, “I have been going all over the earth.”
“Why shouldn't he respect you?” Satan remarked.
The Lord replied, “All right, Satan, do what you want with anything that belongs to him, but don't harm Job.” Then Satan left.
When the angels gathered around the Lord again, Satan was there with them,
and the Lord asked, “Satan, where have you been?” Satan replied, “I have been going all over the earth.”
Satan answered, “There's no pain like your own. People will do anything to stay alive.
Satan left and caused painful sores to break out all over Job's body—from head to toe.
I was given another vision. This time Joshua the high priest was standing in front of the Lord 's angel. And there was Satan, standing at Joshua's right side, ready to accuse him.
But the Lord said, “Satan, you are wrong. Jerusalem is my chosen city, and this man was rescued like a stick from a flaming fire.”
Jesus answered, “Go away Satan! The Scriptures say: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ ”
So if Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom last?
Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Satan, get away from me! You're in my way because you think like everyone else and not like God.”
He stayed there for 40 days while Satan tested him. Jesus was with the wild animals, but angels took care of him.
So if Satan fights against himself, that will be the end of him.
The seeds that fell along the road are the people who hear the message. But Satan soon comes and snatches it away from them.
But when Jesus turned and saw the disciples, he corrected Peter. He said to him, “Satan, get away from me! You are thinking like everyone else and not like God.”
If Satan fights against himself, how can his kingdom last? Yet you say that I force out demons by the power of Beelzebul.
This woman belongs to the family of Abraham, but Satan has kept her bound for 18 years. Isn't it right to set her free on the Sabbath?”

And behold, We said to the angels: ''Bow down to Adam:'' and they bowed down: not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: he was of those who reject Faith.
Then did Satan make them slip from the (Garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: ''Get you down, all (you people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood for a time.''
Those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met, - it was Satan who caused them to fail, because of some (evil) they had done. But Allah has blotted out (their fault): for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Forbearing.
Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject Faith fight in the cause of Evil: so you fight against the friends of Satan: feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan.
When there comes to them some matter touching (public) safety or fear, they divulge it. If they had only referred it to the Messenger, or to those charged with authority among them, the proper investigators would have tested it from them (direct). Were it not for the Grace and Mercy of Allah to you, all but a few of you would have fallen into the clutches of Satan.
(The Pagans), leaving Him, call but upon female deities: they call but upon Satan the persistent rebel!
''I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah.'' Whoever, forsaking Allah, takes Satan for a friend, of a surety has suffered a loss that is manifest.
Satan makes them promises, and creates in them false desires; but Satan's promises are nothing but deception.
When the suffering reached them from Us, why then did they not learn humility? On the contrary their hearts became hardened, and Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them.
When you see men engaged in vain discourse about Our Signs, turn away from them unless they turn to a different theme. If Satan ever makes you forget, then after recollection, do not sit in the company of those who do wrong.
Of the cattle are some for burden and some for meat: eat what Allah has provided for you, and follow not the footsteps of Satan: for he is to you an avowed enemy.
It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels bow down to Adam, and they bowed down; not so Iblis; he refused to be of those who bow down.
Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before): he said: ''Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest you should become angels or such beings as live for ever.''
So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the Garden over their bodies. And their Lord called to them: ''Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy to you?''
O you Children of Adam! let not Satan seduce you, in the same manner as he got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame: for he and his tribe watch you from a position where you cannot see them: We made the Evil Ones friends (only) to those without Faith.
Relate to them the story of the man to whom We sent Our Signs, but he passed them by: so Satan followed him up, and he went astray.
If a suggestion from Satan assails your (mind), seek refuge with Allah; for He hears and knows (all things).
Those who fear Allah, when a thought of evil from Satan assaults them, bring Allah to remembrance, when lo! they see (aright)!
Remember He covered you with a sort of drowsiness, to give you calm as from Himself, and He caused rain to descend on you from heaven, to clean you therewith, to remove from you the stain of Satan, to strengthen your hearts, and to plant your feet firmly therewith.
Remember Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them, and said: ''No one among men can overcome you this day, while I am near to you'': but when the two forces came in sight of each other, he turned on his heels, and said: ''Lo! I am clear of you; lo! I see what you do not see; lo! I fear Allah; for Allah is strict in punishment.''
