Although the man and his wife were both naked, they were not ashamed. The Lord said to the man, “You listened to your wife and ate the fruit I told you not to eat. And so, the ground will be under a curse because of what you did. As long as you live, you will have to struggle to grow enough food. The man Adam named his wife Eve because she would become the mother of all who live. Then the Lord God made clothes out of animal skins for the man and his wife. Later, Cain and his wife had a son named Enoch. At the time Cain was building a town, and so he named it Enoch after his son. Adam and his wife had another son. They named him Seth, because they said, “God has given us a son to take the place of Abel, who was killed by his brother Cain.” But I solemnly promise that you, your wife, your sons, and your daughters-in-law will be kept safe in the boat. Noah was 600 years old when he went into the boat to escape the flood, and he did everything the Lord had told him to do. His wife, his sons, and his daughters-in-law all went inside with him. On that day Noah and his wife went into the boat with their three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives. “You, your wife, your sons, and your daughters-in-law may now leave the boat. Abram was 75 years old when the Lord told him to leave the city of Haran. He obeyed and left with his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the possessions and slaves they had acquired while in Haran. When they came to the land of Canaan, The crops failed, and there was no food anywhere in Canaan. So Abram and his wife Sarai went to live in Egypt for a while. But just before they got there, Abram said, “Sarai, you are really beautiful! Finally, the king sent for Abram and said to him, “What have you done to me? Why didn't you tell me Sarai was your wife? Why did you make me believe she was your sister? Now I've married her. Take her and go! She's your wife.” Abram's wife Sarai had not been able to have any children. But she owned a young Egyptian slave woman named Hagar, and Sarai gave him Hagar to be his wife. This happened after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan for ten years. and they asked, “Where's your wife Sarah?” “She is right there in the tent,” Abraham answered. Early the next morning the two angels tried to make Lot hurry and leave. They said, “Take your wife and your two daughters and get away from here as fast as you can! If you don't, every one of you will be killed when the Lord destroys the city.” At first, Lot just stood there. But the Lord wanted to save him. So the angels took Lot, his wife, and his two daughters by the hand and led them out of the city. On the way, Lot's wife looked back and was turned into a block of salt.

We said: ''O Adam! you and your wife dwell in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where and when) you will, but do not approach this tree, or you run into harm and transgression.'' They followed what the evil ones gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon: the blasphemers were, not Solomon, but the evil ones, teaching men magic, and such things as came down at Babylon to the angels Harut and Marut. But neither of these taught anyone (such things) without saying: ''We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme.'' They learned from them the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah's permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew! So if a husband divorces his wife (irrevocably), he cannot, after that, re-marry her until after she has married another husband and he has divorced her. In that case there is no blame on either of them if they re-unite, provided they feel that they can keep the limits ordained by Allah, which He makes plain to those who understand. He said: ''O my Lord! how shall I have a son, seeing I am very old, and my wife is barren?'' ''Thus'' was the answer, ''Allah accomplishes what He wills.'' But if you decide to take one wife in place of another, even if you had given the latter a whole treasure for dower, take not the least bit of it back: would you take it by slander and a manifest wrong? If a wife fears cruelty or desertion on her husband's part, there is no blame on them if they arrange an amicable settlement between themselves; and such settlement is best; even though men's souls are swayed by greed. But if you do good and practice self-restraint, Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do. ''O Adam! you and your wife dwell in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as you wish: but do not approach this tree, or you run into harm and transgression.'' But We saved him and his family, except his wife: she was of those who lagged behind. And his wife was standing (there), and she laughed: but We gave her glad tidings of Isaac, and after him, of Jacob. (The Messengers) said: ''O Lut! We are Messengers from your Lord. By no means they shall reach you! Now travel with your family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but your wife (will remain behind): to her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their appointed time: is not the morning near?'' The man in Egypt who bought him, said to his wife: ''Make his stay (among us) honorable: maybe he will bring us much good, or we shall adopt him as a son.'' Thus We established Joseph in the land, that We might teach him the interpretation of stories (and events). And Allah has full power and control over His affairs; but most among mankind do not know it. So they both raced each other to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back: they both found her lord near the door. She said: ''What is the (fitting) punishment for one who formed an evil design against your wife, but prison or a grievous chastisement?'' ''O Joseph, pass this over! (O wife), ask forgiveness for your sin, for truly you have been at fault!'' Ladies said in the City: ''The wife of the (great) Aziz is seeking to seduce her slave from his (true) self: Truly he has inspired her with violent love: we see she is evidently going astray.'' (The king) said (to the ladies): ''What was your affair when you sought to seduce Joseph from his (true) self?'' The ladies said: ''Allah preserve us! We do not know any evil against him!'' Said the 'Aziz's wife: ''Now is the truth manifest (to all): it was I who sought to seduce him from his (true) self: he is indeed of those who are (ever) true (and virtuous). ''Except his wife, who, we have ascertained, will be among those who will lag behind.'' ''Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Yourself, - He said: ''O my Lord! how shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?'' Then We said: ''O Adam! verily, this is an enemy to you and your wife: so let him not get you both out of the Garden, so that you are landed in misery. But it would avert the punishment from the wife, if she bears witness four times (with an oath) by Allah, that (her husband) is telling a lie;
